A large UK-based Bank wanted to consolidate its Centera clusters to decrease its footprint and reduce service costs. The bank urgently needed to consolidate because the clusters were no longer supported by EMC and support was on a pay-as-you-go basis with potential financial risk to the customer.
But some of the clusters were inherited through an acquisition and no one knew what data was useful or who owned the applications that write to it. Our customer urgently needed to get detailed statistics on the data and applications to make an informed decision about what data to migrate and what data to delete.
Using DobiMiner, our partner Reciprocal were able to provide the customer with detailed information about the data on the Centera:
Using this information, the customer is able to make informed decisions about the usefulness of the data and select exactly which data to keep and which to migrate, as well as identify the application owners of the data.
Understanding exactly what data existed on their Centera cluster was made easy using the Datagr8 Audit Assessment service. Our customer is now able to plan their migration project with the certain knowledge that only the right data will be migrated saving them valuable storage space.
