PanAgora is an asset management company that uses sophisticated quantitative techniques to analyze vast amounts of data to provide investment solutions tailored for their customers. The firm had been using EMC Centera® as their data storage platform, with their EMC SourceOne® email archiving for several years.

PanAgora’s Centera systems were approaching end of service life so they decided to retire them and expand their existing Data Domain® infrastructure. With this decision came the need to migrate their SourceOne environment from Centera to DataDomain. PanAgora chose Datagr8 as their migration partner based on their excellent reputation for successful migrations, being EMC-certified to perform Source1 migrations, and being highly recommended by EMC.

The PanAgora and Datagr8 teams worked together to assess the environment, analyze the current Centera footprint, and determine the full scope of the project. After the information gathering and scope development phase, the Datagr8 team delivered the detailed project plan and moved forward with installing and configuring the DobiMiner software for the project.

During the migration, DobiMiner’s monitoring of the process unveiled various trouble spots that required attention, with the major issue entailing Compliance licensing on the Data Domain. The PanAgora and Datagr8 team worked in concert to stay on top of the issues and to resolve them in a timely manner. The flexible, production-hardened DobiMiner software accommodated numerous schedule changes ensuring PanAgora’s applications’ timelines were met without impacting end users. While this necessitated working several late nights, the Datagr8 team followed PanAgora’s change control process and delivered as promised.

Datagr8 brought the Centera-to-Data Domain migration to a successful conclusion by validating/reconciling the migrated data, performing the application switch over, and delivering detailed project documentation. PanAgora was pleased with the overall results and viewed the project as a huge success.
